Unique to the Hotel Indigo brand is an upscale, boutique experience truly reflective of the local community. As part of the new brand initiatives, new and renovated Hotel Indigo properties will take advantage of the local fabric by developing a “Neighborhood Story” to inspire the design. ai3 and Winston Hospitality are bringing Nashville’s local personality into the 2012 renovation of their Hotel Indigo downtown property.
During ai3’s review of the hotel building’s history, the team learned the original building Owner wanted to build his bank on the corner of Printer’s Alley. Being unfamiliar with Nashville, ai3 became extremely curious about the alley’s history. Research led the ai3 team to an interesting story to not only inspire the design but that Hotel Indigo guests would also enjoy learning.
To use the strength of Hotel Indigo’s “Neighborhood Story,” the team developed a story no other hotel in Nashville is capable of telling, a story outside of their lobby windows. Had country music not come to Nashville, the city could have become the printing capital of the world, as it was home to over 36 printers and publishers located in Printer’s Alley. At the Lobby’s front door, ai3 references printing machines and block-printing techniques to begin to share the history of Printer’s Alley.
