In Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood, a stroll down cobblestone streets through avenues of fashionably adorned row houses reveal landmark after landmark of pristine 19th century architecture. Acknowledged as Baltimore’s cultural hub, Mount Vernon is far from old-fashioned and is a thriving residential community chocked full of quirky yet well-educated families and individuals. Among one of the neighborhood’s many historic buildings stands a 10-story neoclassical structure combining numerous architectural styles clad in a brick skin, accentuated with vast arched openings. Originally Baltimore’s first YMCA, the building at the corner of West Franklin and Cathedral Streets was slated to become the new home of Hotel Indigo Baltimore.

With the interior design led by ai3, Hotel Indigo Baltimore called for a comprehensive and complete renovation of the 170-room hotel. Honoring the charm and personality of the neighborhood, ai3’s goal was to create an experience that would welcome locals while simultaneously being a sought-after destination for travelers.
