Inspired by livestock behind slatted train car siding, the architectural design of Stockyards is a layering of organic expressions behind rigid and organized structures.

At the crux of one of the most complete horse and mule yards in the country, the Miller Union Stockyard Auction House stood at the hull of the larger Brady Union Stockyards and thrived in the trade and sale of livestock. Straddling the crisscrossing tracks of the Terminus City’s namesake, the Brady tract hoisted freight off train beds and served as the central clearing house for livestock in the late 19th century.

Westbridge Partners, specializing in historic preservation, renovation, and re-use, entered a partnership with the Martin Family of Midtown West and Brickworks to develop the three-acre property located at the corner of 10th street and Brady Avenue in Atlanta’s West Midtown District. To redevelop the last of the historic buildings that make up the Miller Union Stockyard Auction House, Westbridge Partners engaged ai3’s architectural services for a unique update to some of Atlanta’s historical structures.

Facing due west, the development has front row seats of uninterrupted skyline views and engages Atlanta’s Beltline trail with a beer garden and expansive rooftop views.
For Marietta Street, ai3 has designed an office tower concept, the form of which was inspired by the negative space created above the neighboring industrial buildings.
Considered one of the largest urban infill sites in Atlanta, the development is organized in a “town square setting,” and will pay homage to the industrial roots of the area.
